The firm says: Associate base salary (excluding bonuses) is determined by a combination lock-step merit system. Advancement at every level is based exclusively on merit. Our bonus system is a merit based system, rewarding associates for dedication and high quality work. We consider factors such as substantive legal work, practice-building efforts, teamwork, substantial non-billable contributions, hours billed, and dedication and sacrifice in meeting client needs.
The firm says: In January, 2010, the firm moved to a three-tiered, merit-based compensation system. The bonuses are based on performance and hours. In March 2011, March 2012 and March 2013, the firm paid bonuses which resulted in more than half of our associates receiving total compensation that exceeded total compensation at our peer firms. Over the past three years, the firm paid the majority of the remaining bonus-eligible associates bonuses that resulted in total compensation that at least equaled total compensation paid at peer firms.
