'A Criminal attorney handles legal matters involving criminal law. A Criminal attorney is generally either a prosecutor or a defense attorney. Prosecutors litigate criminal cases against people accused of crimes such as robbery or tax evasion. Prosecutors work on behalf of governmental entities such as counties (district attorneys), cities (city attorneys), states (attorneys general) and the federal government (United States attorneys). Criminal defense attorneys work on the other side of criminal cases - defending people accused of crimes. Public defenders are criminal defense attorneys who work for the government and are appointed to represent people who cannot afford to pay for private attorneys.
