A healthcare attorney is a professional and documented position charged with dealing with all legal matters related to healthcare and citizens with various health afflictions. An individual who desires to make a professional career in this area of law must be prepared to support cases with regard to provision of healthcare services and should be prepared for long winded trials and procedures.

Reform in the healthcare sector continues to evolve and mature, giving birth to new legal issues related to healthcare that organizations need to tackle. The industry is in the center of extensive consolidation, with healthcare providers, clinics, practices of doctors, and other health centers integrating into broad networks which need expanded domestic legal departments.

In accordance with professional health organizations such as the "American Health Lawyers Association" (AHLA) and the "American Bar Association (ABA), in-house legal employees within healthcare centers and health systems have grown progressively within the last several years.

Besides the conventional techniques of searching for healthcare attorney jobs like networking and searching online, experts say that executive search companies and recruiters are more often hired by organizations to gain assistance in recognizing potential legal leaders and evaluate and coach their in-house legal teams. Some people can make an alteration beyond the research-driven sectors with pharmaceutical firms or the like.

In the United States, because demand for their legal services has greatly increased, salaries for healthcare attorneys and other legal executives have also increased. According to the suggestion of AHLA data, in-house counsels in the legal healthcare industry have experienced an improvement in salaries by about 10% on an annual basis in the past few years.
