'Internships can be viewed as an opportunity for a trainee to gain an overall understanding of the legal system. Corporate in-houses, private firms, government and non-profit agencies, as well as judges at all levels can appoint internships. Law students wishing to gain experience in legal field and also wanting to have an excellent view of what the practice of law is, can think of perusing internships. They perform research and write memoranda; manage case files; perform administrative duties such as filing, copying staffing receptionists desks; assist with preparation for trials, hearings, and depositions; attend client meetings; assist constituents; attend trials, hearings, arguments, and depositions; research legislative histories, etc. Interns are also usually involved in writing articles and contributing to the booklets on specific legal topics. Internships are generally unpaid. However, internships may qualify for academic credit. The interns are assigned a supervisor, or a mentor. They work under the supervision, and with the assistance of, experienced lawyers. During summers, internships are usually offered for the full time. Grade point average and class rank, participation in extracurricular activities, oral and written communication skills, interest in public service, and prior employment are all considering factors for students to be selected for internships. Every effort is generally made to accommodate interns areas of interest. Preferences of the students are well taken into consideration, as well as divisions workloads and hiring needs. Some rotation may be possible. The students work is always evaluated and constructive criticism is also provided. An internship is a great way to earn academic credit, gain relevant work experience, and build resume.

Fall Legal Internship
Interns will be exposed to a variety of areas, with primary focus on administrative law and process. Will assist the Research and Policy team with researching specific questions of law and policy, preparing legal memoranda, and assisting with event planning. Interest and coursework in Administrative Law preferred and familiarity with federal agencies and the administrative process is needed. 2ls and 3ls can apply.

Fall Legal Internships
Interns conduct research and draft pleadings for active litigation, assist in producing substantive manuals for legal advocates, attend briefings and track legislation. Will be given an array of subjects from which to develop newsletter and website articles (reporting/analyzing newly promulgated or pending legislation, presenting case notes, and reporting on litigation trends). Should have good research, writing, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated commitment to expanding and protecting health care access for low-income and underserved populations, public interest, public health and/or poverty law is preferred. Law Students, Masters in Public Health and Grad Students can apply for unpaid (small stipend for Graduate Public Health Students).

Legal Research Internship
Interns will conduct research on a variety of international human rights and comparative law topics. Must be 1-2 2Ls, 3Ls and LLMs. Coursework and experience in Political Science, Human Rights, Public Policy, Religious Affairs, Government Affairs, Foreign Policy or a related field. Must be familiar with legal research techniques and Microsoft Office. Ability in Arabic is helpful, but not required, as is interest in the field of international human rights.
Schedule: 20-30 hrs/wk

The candidate must have excellent telephone skills. Must be professional, have excellent client service skills and dress accordingly. Must be computer proficient, including MS Office. Must speak English and Mandarin Chinese.
Legal Internship
The candidate will be working with criminal defense and personal injury cases and will be responsible for assisting with cases, reviewing and preparing correspondence, preparing discovery, typing and modifying documents, preparing case folders, preparing trial binders, locating and interviewing witnesses, client intake and maintaining files. If candidate is interested in legal research and writing, such opportunities are also available. Additional administrative responsibilities will include answering phones, personal assistant work, requesting checks, contact with clients and health care providers, and running small office errands. Experience in criminal defense and/or personal injury law and bilingual is a plus.
Legal Internship
The candidate will report to and work closely with our CFO, and collaborate with other members of the Paint Nite Management team and other employees, to help define, create and edit legal documents and contracts to both protect Paint Nite and help us move our business forward. Will setup Contract and (Non-Disclosure Agreement) NDA workflow process. Review of contracts and all 3rd party NDA's. Organize and track all contracts in place. Setup "Contract Matrix" summarizing all contracts in place. Setup "State Matrix" summarizing all statutory requirements to do business in all states plus Washington D C and Puerto Rico. Setup "International Matrix" summarizing all statutory requirements to do business in foreign jurisdictions (as identified). Identify and resolve any non-compliance issues in states and foreign countries. Review insurance policies to adequate business coverage to minimize company risk. Must have Law Degree or currently pursuing a Law Degree. Experience writing and editing contracts and NDA's is needed. Experience in or knowledge of setting up business in international locations is needed.
Legal Internship, Spring 2017
The legal intern will work in the Adult Criminal division with the Alternate Public Defender (APD). The interns experience hands-on work with attorneys and investigators, interact with scores of clients, assist with case organization and research, prepare motions and other written documents for the benefit of actual clients, and attend a variety of court hearings. Students who are PTLS certified by the State Bar may be able to appear in court and represent clients under the supervision of an attorney. Certified interns gain practical litigation experience, interact with judges and the local bar, and learn skills that will set them far above their peers. 2L and 3L students are preferred. Must commit 16+ hours/week.
Tentative Program Dates : January 10 - May 12, 2017.
