'A foreclosure paralegal is a paralegal who works in the area of foreclosure and housing law. Foreclosure paralegals work for attorneys who help clients facing foreclosure on their homes, which is a process through which banks that hold mortgages on homes take back the homes for non-payment of loan obligations. There also are foreclosure paralegals who work on the other side—for the banks who are attempting to foreclose on homes. Foreclosure paralegals assist attorneys with a wide variety of tasks, including communicating with clients and loan officers and helping draft paperwork. Because foreclosure paralegals are not attorneys and have not been admitted to the bars of any state, they must always work under the direction of a practicing attorney.
