DHS Hires The Riggs, Abney, Neal, Turpen, Orbison & Lewis Law Firm
Director Howard Hendrick and the general counsel of The Department of Human Services chose The Riggs, Abney, Neal, Turpen, Orbison & Lewis law firm to defend DHS in a class-action lawsuit. Riggs-Abney has offices in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Denver. The firm became known after representing Oklahoma in a lawsuit against the tobacco industry. It was awarded $30 million in legal fees. Riggs-Abney was selected because of its capability of handling complex litigation and because of one of its attorney Bob Nance who has more experience in handling class-action lawsuits in Oklahoma than anyone else. The firms' attorneys have been charging the state $185 to $200 per hour, and providing additional discounts on some bills - relatively cheap for the expertise they provide.
