Two experienced lawyers join Shackelford, Melton & McKinley as partners
Two experienced lawyers, Mark S. McQuality and Joseph G. Chumlea, will join Dallas law firm Shackelford, Melton & McKinley, LLP, as partners. McQuality has vast experience in litigation related to real estate, residential, and commercial construction, as well as insurance law. Before joining Shackelford, McQuality founded the firm Bragg Chumlea McQuality. Chumlea, a commercial litigator, also specializes in consumer law. He headed the consumer law division of the State Bar of Texas and contributed as a course director to the bar's consumer law course on advanced deceptive trade practices. Shackelford, Melton & McKinley represents financial institutions, real estate owners and developers, and automobile dealers.
Two experienced lawyers recently joined Sidley Austin, LLP, as partners. Antitrust trial lawyer Samuel R. Miller joined the firm's San Francisco office as a litigation partner. Miller, who has significant experience with securities litigation and white-collar matters, will concentrate on the firm's antitrust and commercial litigation practice. Real estate expert Farid Maluf has joined the firm's New York office. Maluf's knowledge of finance and skills in multiple areas of real estate law are expected to satisfy the existing needs of the firm's clients. Eminent federal courts and constitutional law scholar David L. Shapiro has joined Manatt, Phelps & Phillips as a consultant. Shapiro, a professor emeritus at Harvard Law School, is expected to strengthen the firm's appellate and U.S. Supreme Court practices. Earlier, Shapiro served as Associate Dean of Harvard Law School. He has also taught as a visiting professor at various law schools around the world. From 1988 to 1991, Shapiro served as Deputy Solicitor General for the first Bush administration. With approximately 300 attorneys in seven offices, the firm provides fully integrated legal and strategic consulting services to U.S. and global clients.
Urban development expert joins Ulmer & Berne
Urban development expert Mary Forbes Lovett is joining Ulmer & Berne as a partner in its real estate group. Lovett has had vast experience assisting developers, investors, and lenders with issues related to acquisition, restoration, development, and finance. Her expertise includes knowledge relating to the use of historic credits, new markets tax credits, and conservation easements. Lovett is also proficient in leasing and corporate financing transactions, land development, and environmental matters. She assists her clients with entity creation and corporate issues. Prior to joining Ulmer & Berne, Lovett headed the real estate practice of Cowden, Humphrey, Nagorney & Lovett. Ulmer & Berne, LLP, a full-service firm with approximately 185 attorneys, operates Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Chicago offices.
