Withers LLP

Last week, global law firm Withers LLP, which originated in England and is known in the US as Withers Bergman LLP, appointed its first global chairman who is a U.S. citizen. Ivan A. Sacks became the new global chairman for Withers LLP with effect from July, 2013. Sacks succeeds Anthony Indaimo who finished the maximum allowed tenure of two terms as global chairman of the firm.
He joined Withers LLP as a partner in 2003 and is known for developing the law firm's successful practice in Latin America. He is most well-known for advising family businesses in structuring their business interests, including the organization of charitable foundations, family offices, and trusts and estates. Sacks advises his clients on comprehensive risk management, governance and succession planning.
As a practicing attorney, Sacks is a member of the bar of the State of New York and in the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York. He studied law at the Columbia Law School, and during his tenure as a student there he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, a Charles Evans Hughes Fellow, and Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review.
He speaks frequently on international wealth planning and advises banks and trusts on fiduciary matters.
Speaking on his appointment, he said, "I am honored to assume the role of chairman and will strive to continue the exemplary work of my predecessor Anthony Indaimo."
