From 2009 until 2011, Beem served as a Director of the Board for the NALP, the Association for Legal Career Professionals. He was also the Chair of the GLBT Section, Midwest Regional Coordinator for the NALP. In 2008 he was involved with the Diversity Summit Planning Committee.
Beem has been quoted by the media and published in a number of NALP Bulletins. His publications have included Helpful Tips for Using NALP's GLBT Resources (April 2007) and Broadening Our Knowledge: Resources to Assist in Understanding Transgender Individuals (January 2008).
He was a presenter at the Columbus Bar Association Summer Associate Research Seminars in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010, covering topics of relevance to careers in the legal field. He was also a presenter at the NALP 2007 and 2010 Annual Education Conferences and at a 2010 Ohio State University Moritz College of Law event. This summer he was a facilitator for the networking session of the WCIP Excellence in Professional Development Series.
Beem is a member of the American Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association, the NALP, the National LGBT Bar Association, and the Ohio Law Placement Consortium.
He is currently a member of the Students Services Committee at Capital University Law School, which sponsors Conversations Work Groups and the Good Cheer Work Group. Conversation Work Groups support discussion on contemporary topics, while the Good Cheer Work Group organizes entertainment and activities for law students throughout the school year.
Earlier this year, Capital University Law School presented Beem with the G.O.L.D. Award for his accomplishments and service to the legal career services profession.
Beem received his JD from Capital University Law School in 2002 and holds a BA from the University of Dayton. Before entering law school, Beem studied at the Universite de Strasbourg in France and worked at the College Episcopale St. Etienne as an English Lecturer.
