Williams' blog, ''May it Please the Court'', is read by legal minds around the country. It is described as a ''weblog of legal news and observations''. Its here readers learn he is as passionate about writing as he is the law. He says he's written ''practically every day for nearly 25 years''. With an initial focus on a career in journalism, Williams first worked as a newspaper writer and then admits that his boss, a ''white haired woman in her 60s, terrorized me as a writer''. Most writers can attest to their own white haired lady full of intimidating looks and the ability to strike fear in even the most confident writer. For Williams, though, he opted for the legal profession, but never lost that passion to write. Fortunate for those who subscribe to his blog, he now takes pride in one of the most read legal blogs on the web.
After graduating in 1987, with distinction, from the University of Iowa, Williams then chose to concentrate on areas such as business litigation, environmental issues, intellectual property, white collar crime and employment and labor law. He's admitted to the California, Massachusetts and Washington state bars, as well as the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District, both E.D. and N.D., in California, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and several others.
When Williams isn't concentrating on various cases with his firm, and when he's not overseeing one of his blogs many podcasts, he counsels medical facilities regarding the 1996 Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and all of the compliance considerations that go along with the law. He is a Board Certified Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, as well.
As mentioned, Williams is a partner with Sedgwick, LLP. The firm is an international litigation and business law firm specializing in risk management, appellate and transactional legal services. The California law firm was founded by three partners in 1933 and has grown to a firm with more than 350 lawyers with offices around the globe.
