Founded and sanctioned in 1982 when Georgia lawmakers and national academic and legal leaders saw a need for an additional school in the region, it instantly became the ideal solution for students who were already working full time and who needed access to evening legal courses. Its first year included an enrollment of 200, most of whom were night students. There were six professors, and two of those professors remain with the college today.

Soon, GSU College of Law found itself being the first for those law firms looking to hire graduating students. In fact, the National Law ranks George State University College of Law in its annual list of the ''Top 50 Go-To Law Schools''. Many credit the faculty to student ratio and others say it is the experience of those faculty and still, there are those who insist it's a combination of many factors that make the law school such a powerful force. Regardless, in its humble and almost quiet manner, GSU Law moves forward, making changes and remaining progressive.

Learn the 10 Factors That Matter to Big Firms More Than Where You Went to Law School

GSU Law is located in downtown Atlanta and offers several full time and part time programs. It's wisely located in the legal district, where students have access to courtrooms and legal firms and the doors for these students are always open. The various possibilities for elective considerations are vast and include everything from legal drafting to litigation counseling to dispute resolution. Further, the school has several clinics including the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic and Center for Law, Health and Society.

Tuition, as mentioned, is one of the most affordable opportunities in the nation. On average, GPA and LSAT scores for new students is 3.42 and 159, respectively. Applications are accepted between October 1 and March 15 while the Admissions Committee makes the decisions on who's accepted. The school also boasts a 96% retention rate.

Tuition for in-state residents is $5,784 per semester or $11,568 annually. Part time credit hours are $482. For non-residents, full time rate per semester is $16,296 or $35,592 annually. Part time credit hours are $1,358. Further, there are semester fees that total $871 and are used to implement the college's various programs.

Recently, Georgia State University College of Law was ranked in the top third of American law schools. It will appear in the 2012 edition of America's Best Law Schools. It's a title the school as a whole is proud of, from the dean to the L1 students who are just beginning their journeys.
