In addition to her involvement with the St. Isidore Foundation and the Sacred Heart Community Center, McAlpine also works with OmniPeace to encourage assistance and support for the women of Congo. OmniPeace, a compassionate fashion brand that was formed by Mary Fanaro, entered a partnership with McAlpine last year that began with the distribution of about 500 OmniPeace t-shirts to the woman and girls at Dr. Mukwege's Panzi Hospital. The hospital, which is located in the Eastern Congo, provides services for female victims of violence. The shirts were delivered in connection to Omni's ''Stamp Out Violence Against Women and Girls in the Congo'' campaign.
Just last month, McAlpine was named to the 27th Annual Tribute to Women (TWIN) Awards by the YWCA of Silicon Valley. The TWIN Awards serve to recognize exceptional women in executive-level positions, as well as the companies that these women work for. The program, which was initiated 27 years ago, is representative of multiple companies and industries, including technology, law, marketing, communications, non-profit, healthcare, and more recently, the green technology industry. The actual awards dinner will be held on May 3, 2011 at the San Jose Fairmont. CEOs, dignitaries, honorees, and their families will attend the Silicon Valley ceremony, which functions as a fundraiser for the YWCA. Funds are used to support the many services offered by the YWCA, including intervention, prevention, childcare, and economic development.
At Wyse Technology, a world leader in cloud client computing, McAlpine manages the company's legal matters as well as counseling the members of executive management on key matters within the corporation. Immediately before joining Wyse Technology in 2005, McAlpine worked at Sun Microsystems for a period of eight years. Prior to that, she was an associate with Graham and James, LLP and McCutchen Doyle Brown and Enernsen, LLP, where she focused on Intellectual Property Transactions and Licensing. She holds a law degree from Suffolk University and a BA in English Literature from the University of Alabama.
