In September alone, 2,500 legal jobs were added to the field. That's an increase of over 1,000 jobs added during August when the field saw 1,400 jobs added to its ranks.
In September 2009, the BLS showed an increase of 6,700 jobs during September alone. That's a considerably higher number compared to the last three months combined.
Nonetheless, the legal sector can consider itself lucky as the overall job market takes a big hit. According to the BLS, 95,000 jobs were lost throughout the country during September alone. The source of the loss, however, is not the private sector.
While the United States' private sector saw an increase of 64,000 jobs last month, government jobs took a huge dip which amounted to almost three times that number. Nearly 159,000 government jobs were lost in September. This can be attributed to the dying down of 2010 Census jobs. Additional job losses came out of local government positions.
