Patent attorney Rod Cooper joins Nix Patterson
Nix, Patterson & Roach, LLP, has announced the appointment of Rod Cooper as a partner in its intellectual property division. A registered patent attorney with a science and technology background, Cooper will add leverage to the firm's growing intellectual property practice. Before starting his solo practice in 2003, Cooper worked at Sidley Austin and has handled major intellectual property litigation cases. Established in 1965 by founder Harold Nix, Nix, Patterson & Roach is a premier plaintiff's law firm with offices in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Saltillo, Mexico.

Pepper Hamilton's new Boston office hires international tax counsel
International tax attorney Leonard Schneidman has joined Pepper Hamilton's new Boston office as Of Counsel. Prior to joining the firm, Schneidman was Partner and Chairman of the Tax Department at business law firm Foley Hoag. He has expertise in the areas of international tax planning and corporate transactions; he also actively advises on private investment funds. Schneidman is a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and a member of the Executive Committee of the Federal Tax Institute of New England. Pepper Hamilton's new Boston office will initially concentrate on corporate, tax, private equity, and life sciences matters. As the firm continues to seek more attorneys from Boston, Schneidman will be the only full-time attorney in the office.

DLA Piper's Asia expansion prompts addition of top corporate lawyers
In a move to boost its practice in Asia, DLA Piper announced the addition of two prominent attorneys. Corporate lawyer Esther Leung will join the firm's Hong Kong office as Partner, while Koji Ishikawa has been named Partner in the Tokyo branch. Leung comes from Australian firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques' local office and is a specialist in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and restructuring. Ishikawa was previously based in the Shanghai office of O'Melveny & Myers and is an expert in floating Chinese companies on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The ever-increasing need for legal support for cross-border activities related to capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity has led DLA Piper to step up its recruitment of international corporate attorneys.

Synergy Law Group hires litigation partner
In order to strengthen its litigation practice, Synergy Law Group, LLC, has hired Joseph L. Kish as Partner. Working from Synergy's California office, Kish will head the firm's complex litigation group. Kish has dealt extensively with cases related to commercial law, intellectual property litigation, and corporate governance at the trial and appellate court levels.
