Techbooks hires new assistant GC
Techbooks, Inc., has appointed Gearoid E. Moore as Assistant General Counsel. In his new position, Moore will report to Chief Financial Officer Bart Snell. With vast experience in the business and legal arenas, Moore will help the company further the progress it has begun to make following its recent acquisition of Whitmont Legal Technologies. Formerly, Moore was attached to Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR), PC, a law firm that specializes in corporate governance and finance, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property, among many other areas of law. Techbooks provides life-cycle content transformation solutions to major publishers, Fortune Global 500 companies, and clients in the legal field.

Williamson new GC at Centene
Keith Williamson has joined Centene Corporation's legal department as Senior Vice President, Corporate Secretary, and General Counsel. Williamson will be based in the company's St. Louis headquarters and will serve as its chief attorney in his newly created position. Prior to joining Centene, Williamson spent nearly two decades with Pitney Bowes in Stamford. Centene provides specialized health solutions to complex problems faced by patients, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical companies, distributors, and payers. It also runs managed health programs for Medicaid recipients and manages health plans in Missouri, Kansas, Wisconsin, Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, and Texas.

Rambus names Lavelle GC
Rambus raided rival memory-chip maker Xilinx to appoint Thomas Lavelle as its General Counsel. The appointment of Lavelle fills the vacancy that was left behind after John Danforth relinquished his post. Rambus designs and licenses computer-memory intellectual property. The company is already entrenched in litigation involving several memory-chip makers and anticipating an impending federal suit.

United Technologies appoints new GC
Charles Gill has been appointed as Hartford-based United Technologies Corporation (UTC)'s General Counsel. Gill, who replaces William Trachsel, most recently served as General Counsel of Carrier, a UTC division based in Farmington that manufactures air conditioners. First hired by UTC in 1995 to work as an engineer at Pratt & Whitney, Trachsel began his career with the company's legal department after earning his law degree and has held several important positions. Prior to joining UTC, Gill worked for law firm Robinson & Cole. UTC is a pioneer global technology corporation dealing with innovations in aerospace, aviation, helicopter design, climate control, elevator design, and hydrogen fuel cell development.

NRG Energy appoints new executive VP and GC
NRG Energy, Inc., has named Drew Murphy as its new Executive Vice President and General Counsel. With more than 15 years of experience representing issuers, developers, investors, and lenders in a wide variety of U.S. and cross-border energy projects and structured financings, Murphy will advise and support NRG on all legal matters relating to compliance, governance, and general business operations. An expert in development projects and financings, such as coal- and gas-fired power plants, transmission lines, gas storage facilities, waste-to-energy facilities, water treatment facilities, and renewable energy projects, Murphy formerly served law firm Hunton & Williams as Partner-in-Charge for its energy practice. NRG Energy, Inc., operates power-generating facilities in Texas, as well as in the Northeastern, South Central, and Western regions of the United States.

Katz takes charge as Federal-Mogul VP and GC
Robert L. Katz will take on responsibility for all legal affairs at Federal-Mogul Corporation on January 8 when he assumes the role of Vice President and General Counsel. Announcing this new appointment, Chairman, President, and CEO of Federal-Mogul Jose Maria Alapont said that Katz's considerable experience in corporate law and strategy, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, and compliance, as well as his international experience in the automotive industry, will prove to be great assets to the corporation. Katz formerly served Delphi Corporation's European, Middle Eastern, and African operations as General Counsel and Regional Compliance Officer for seven years.
