Winston & Strawn, a Chicago-based law firm, has recently announced that it has hired Will Turner, a blockchain-focused deal maker, from Greenberg Traurig's Miami office. Turner will be working as a partner in Winston's mergers & acquisitions practice and its digital assets & blockchain technology group. This appointment comes less than two years after he joined Greenberg Traurig from Steptoe & Johnson.
Turner, based in Florida, stated that he would be in Miami full-time, despite previously dividing his time between Chicago and Tampa. Winston & Strawn opened its Miami office last year and has been expanding its team there.
The firm considers blockchain a strategic priority, and Turner's hire reflects its commitment to developing its blockchain and digital assets practice. Turner's clients include Swiss venture capital entities, blockchain investors, and cryptocurrency exchanges. Still, he has declined to reveal any further information regarding his clients or the amount of work that he will bring to Winston.
Despite the worldwide decline in mergers and acquisitions activity in the first quarter of 2023, Turner stated that his blockchain-related clients' appetite for deals has increased, and there is still a lot of activity in that industry. However, he also noted a slowdown in deal-making activity from his venture capital and finance clients, as it takes longer for people to agree to terms.
Overall, the addition of Turner to Winston's team is a significant move for the firm as it continues to expand its presence in the blockchain and digital assets sector, which is expected to increase in the coming years.
