Goodwin Procter Announces Change in Leadership After Turbulent Period

Goodwin Procter, a large law firm, has announced a change in leadership after a turbulent period. Despite experiencing significant revenue growth of approximately 30% due to a hiring frenzy in 2021, the firm's profitability suffered in the latter half of 2022 due to the tech sector's implosion. A slowdown in mergers and acquisitions further complicated matters, and the firm conducted layoffs at the beginning of this year. Robert Insolia, chair of Goodwin Procter since 2019 and managing partner for seven years, oversaw these events but planned to step down.

Anthony McCusker, the co-chair of Goodwin's technology practice, has been selected to replace Insolia. McCusker spent over 13 years at Gunderson before joining Goodwin in 2010, and he has served as a leader throughout his tenure at the firm. McCusker has been chairman of the firm's Silicon Valley office and has served on executive and allocations committees. Insolia praised McCusker as the right person to take over and expressed confidence in the firm's future.

Goodwin Procter's client-centric strategy and global platform set it apart with a unique mix of market-moving industries, a deep understanding, and the growing convergence among them. McCusker has expressed excitement about continuing to build on the firm's success and promises to work with all members of the firm in his new role as chair. The outgoing Insolia has been commended for leading the firm through great successes and challenging times, and the firm wishes McCusker the best of luck in his new position.

“Our client-centric strategy and global platform are differentiated as much by the unique mix of market-moving industries they cover, as by our deep understanding of these industries and the growing convergence among them. Rob has done a great job building on the Goodwin promise to our clients and our people, and I look forward to continuing with this build—along with all of us at the firm—in my role as chair.”
