Historic $500,000 Donation Creates Full-Ride Scholarship for Public Interest Work at WVU College of Law
A generous anonymous donor has made a historic $500,000 donation to the West Virginia Bar Foundation, a philanthropic organization that supports the legal profession in West Virginia. The gift, the largest single donation in the Foundation's 34-year history, will fund a full-ride scholarship for a WVU College of Law student interested in pursuing public interest work.

The scholarship, first funded in the 2009-10 school year, will be renamed the Justice Larry V. Starcher Public Service Scholarship in honor of Justice Starcher, who served on the WVU College of Law’s faculty for many years. Board President Lucien Lewin said the name change would celebrate the incredible life and legacy of the late Justice Starcher, who was a friend, colleague, and mentor to many students, attorneys, and jurists over the years.

Tessa White, the Foundation's executive director, expressed her gratitude for the gift and explained that it would allow for the enhancement of the Foundation's programs and services for additional grants to be made for years to come. She emphasized that this donation comes at a time when funds for legal services are at a historically high level.
