I Have Been Accepted to Fordham and Cornell. What Should I Do?
Most law firms avoid posting jobs on Indeed or LinkedIn due to high costs. Instead, they publish them on their own websites, bar association pages, and niche legal boards. LawCrossing finds these hidden jobs, giving you access to exclusive opportunities. Sign up now!
Question: I am trying to decide between two law schools: Fordham and Cornell. I know I want to work at a New York City law firm after school. Will one school give me more opportunities than the other? I love NYC, but it's hard to turn down an acceptance to Cornell. What should I do? Thanks!
Answer: Oh, what a wonderful dilemma! Depending on how well you do in law school, you are in a win/win situation since you know that you want to work in New York City. Cornell is currently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the 12th best law school in the nation. Fordham is ranked No. 32.
Although Fordham is ranked much lower, it still is very well thought of by most major New York law firms. Whether you go to Cornell or Fordham, you will need to be in the top 25 percent of your class and preferably on Law Review in order to receive an offer from one of the major New York law firms (until the economy recovers and the firms become a bit more lenient in their hiring criteria). Best wishes!
