Rainy, rainy day here in Chicago.

I pulled out my rain boots for the first time all summer! Good thing because I think they were getting bored...

At the beginning of my yoga class, as with most classes, the instructor asked us to close our eyes and determine our intention for the class. Why were we there? What did we want to get out of the class? And then to try and follow that intention during the class.

This got me thinking.

Why don't I live with intention in all areas of my life? I know it sounds a bit exhausting, but in the end I think I'm exhausting myself by just going through my day without any real thought about what I'm doing or why I'm doing it.
United States

I hope that thinking about what I'm doing and why I'm doing it will help me get more things accomplished. Rather than mindlessly sitting on facebook when I should be reading, I need to focus on what I want to get done. Or even with cleaning my apartment: if I focus on the task at hand and keep myself from getting distracted by other things, a lot more will get accomplished. This strategy can even work with food. Thinking about my goals, such as getting more protein, can help me plan my meals.

Using intention will also be helpful in other aspects of my life, even socially. For example, if I make my intention to build a better relationship with a certain friend, then I can ask myself, "What am I doing to reach this intention? What else can I do?". Or, if I'm out at lunch with someone, I shouldn't be focusing on all the other things passing through my brain, but I should pay attention to who I'm eating with and stay in the moment.

Living with intention is about paying attention to what is happening in my life and appreciating it as well as improving it. Hopefully I will be able to utilize this in my life and keep myself in check!

Do you live with intention? Do you think this could be a good way to go about life?
