Hughes Hubbard & Reed will be opening a branch in Kansas City as of January 1, 2012. It will be adding a products liability litigation team from Kansas City–based Shook, Hardy & Bacon. The firm has been cautious in the past about opening new branches, but says that the new office fits into its strategy of being where its clients are. 20 to 25 lawyers and other staffers from Shook will join Hughes Hubbard and most of the work will be for Lorrillard Tobacco initially.
