Atlanta is not only one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, it's also home to one of the country's strongest law schools. Vickie Brown, the Georgia State University College of Law career dean, finds the sometimes long hours rewarding; she too was once one of those college students, unsure of where her own career goals would place her, but determined nonetheless. In today's unpredictable economy, Brown knows today's graduating classes face obstacles unlike any before. The job market remains tight, the economic horizon is anything but certain and the legal field as a whole is undergoing big changes. Still, she works to ensure those realizations don't become so overwhelming for graduating law students that they miss the “big picture'' perspective.

With two decades of service in the employment sector, both public and private facilities, Brown has a unique viewpoint that allows her certain liberties others might miss. She works closely with law firms around the nation, along with various state bar associations and other legal bodies. She's a member of National Association for Law Placement and was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2002. Her day to day routines include overseeing law school budgets while also managing the on campus book store, copy center and mailroom services and student accounts. She and her team keep these important departments running smoothly and seamlessly.

The mission of the Career Services arm of the college is “to educate students through exposure to a variety of legal practice areas and legal alternative options; to help students develop skills necessary to effectively compete in the legal market and to assist students in the achievement of their summer and post graduation employment goals''.

In the short term, the career services team is preparing for the fall recruitment season, which is busy for any college campus and certainly Georgia State's College of Law as it continues to grow in leaps and bounds. The Atlanta area is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and the southeast United States is the fastest growing region. Indeed, there's much to look forward to as the law school continues to earn awards while sending out into the world some of the best prepared lawyers the country has ever seen. Brown is humble in her role, saying it's the students who make those possibilities a reality and the law school is simply the foundation from which these young lawyers grow and thrive from.
