<<She also steps up to the plate to reassure those new law students who have no idea what to expect as they begin their college careers. The law school is well respected not only in its home state of Louisiana, but around the country. It's evidenced in the quality of its graduates and the quality of work produced courtesy of an education gained via SULC. Keep reading as we highlight the SULC's Michelle Jackson and her contribution to the school, its student body and alumni.

Michelle Jackson, Southern University Law Center's Career Counseling and Development Office Direct, knows her student body. She and her staff are a tireless group that work in fluid motions for the betterment of the students and their community. The Chicago native earned her JD from the University of Chicago Law School, where she remained and worked in the private sector and specialized in real estate taxation matters. She also filled the role as Associate General Counsel in the Cook County Tax Assessor's office. In this capacity, she closely examined various tax documents and appeals while also working with the county administration for all things related to the legalities of county and state government. Eventually, however, she felt as though she was ready for a new challenge. She found that challenge in Baton Rouge, and in 2005, she became the Director of Career Counseling and Development at Southern University Law Center.

She and her team establish relationships with law firms around the country as graduates begin their legal career searches. With an eye for what a law firm might need, she always has a graduating senior in mind that she knows will fill that need beautifully. She plans and manages job fairs while also providing career counseling. Jackson also fills the role of an adjunct professor and proudly teaches legal research to first year law students. She is proud of the contributions she makes, either in the role of career counselor or professor; she pulls both off with grace, confidence and deep respect for the law.

Jackson is very well respected in all circles; whether she's standing face to face with a group of incoming law students who are nervous and unsure of what the next several years will encompass or sitting in front of the nation's most prominent law firm to discuss its needs and why the dream candidate is preparing to graduate from Southern University Law Center, she knows her job well and trusts her instincts. As it turns out, those instincts have served her well.
