Located in the Portland, ME area, Peter L. Thompson has been a trusted member of his community for years and his popularity stems in part from this ethical approach to the legal system. A graduate of Bowdoin College, he received his B.A. here before obtaining his J.D. at University of Maine School of Law, where he served as the Managing Editor of Maine Law Review.

Since passing the State Bar, he has assisted hundreds of clients in their efforts of obtaining medical services that insurance companies and HMOs denied. He is also a vocal advocate of fair treatment for all of his fellow Mainers. His successes have been many, including the 1998 Arnold v. United Parcel Services, Inc. that was highly publicized as well as Duckworth v. Pratt & Whitney, Inc. in 1998, also a case that garnered national attention. While he concentrates his energies on those areas of his practice such as accident and injury law, bad faith insurance litigation and employment law, he is well-versed in other specialties and has successfully represented his clients in many of these other legal sectors. His clients describe him as ''a leader'' with ''outstanding initiatives'' and they say they felt ''respected'', ''truly represented'' and ''grateful''. He has had at least seven jury trials that resulted in settlements of more than $2,000,000.00 each.

His law firm takes a ''no holds barred'' stance when it comes to getting the message out. He and his associates maintain a blog, routinely provide information on current laws that just been put into effect and he is also known as an attorney who stays connected with his clients. ''He always returned my call and was always upfront with my wife and me'', says one of his former clients.

Among his many accolades, Thompson was voted ''Best Personal Injury Lawyer'' for four years in a row (2005-2009) by Market Surveys of America, was featured in SuperLawyers, Who's Who in American Law and is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. His professional associations include the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Maine Trial Lawyers Association, Maine State Bar Association, National Employment Lawyers Association and the Maine Employment Lawyers Association. He also currently serves as the Legal Director of the Consumer Health Law Program (CHLP), which exists to provide complementary legal assistance for those who have no health insurance benefits. This is certainly taking center stage with the current ongoing debate about President Obama's health care reform. Make no mistake, his goal is to ensure adequate health care coverage not only for his clients, but he knows that the efforts made now will affect Americans as a whole.

Thompson's law firm specializes in wrongful death, worker's compensation, nursing home abuse, SUV rollovers, defective products, medical malpractice, automobile accidents and construction accidents, just to make a few. He keeps his law firm small, employing four lawyers, so that each client who comes through the door is welcomed with sincerity. It's a formula that has served him and his firm well.

We're proud to have Peter L. Thompson as this week's Law Star inductee and you can learn more about Thompson, his employees and his firm at Peter-Thompson-Associates.com.
