Sheriff's Lt. Dave Dolson assured area residents that Tidus's death was not a random act and said that further investigation into Tidus's legal cases will be forthcoming to determine if his death is related to any of his legal work. Dolson added that he didn't think ''the residents of this neighborhood need to be worried.''
According to Tidus's neighbors, his wife reported that Tidus went outside to retrieve his laptop from his car but he didn't return to the house. Neighbors reported that they saw a laptop on the front lawn and blood was visible on the driveway.
Attorney Brian Hennigan, a close friend of Tidus's for many years, remarked that Tidus was ''a very dedicated family man . . . a by-the-book attorney known for his work on the state bar ethics panel. I was in total shock. We only ran together Sunday. He's an avid long-distance runner. We've run a few marathons together.'' Hennigan added that Tidus was planning on running in the next L.A. marathon.
According to Hennigan and co-workers, Tidus was experienced in litigation and although he took 4 to 5 cases to trial annually, they did not believe that any of the cases would be considered ''dangerous for an attorney's personal safety.''
In addition to interviewing Tidus's business partners and family members, an autopsy will be performed on Tidus's body shortly to determine if he was slain or the shot was self-inflicted.
