If you keep up with the Supreme Court's sessions, then you may already know that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia missed the court's brief session this Monday, but do you know why? The Blog of the Legal Times says it's because he was deer hunting. And his partner in blazing bullets is Mark Lanier, an attorney known for ''quoting the Bible and slamming corporate America.''
EHarmony has agreed to settle a case brought on by the great state of New Jersey who purported that eHarmony violated the Law Against Discrimination — they didn't offer same-sex matching services. The WSJ Law Blog said EHarmony has agreed to launch a new same-sex matching service next year — compatiblepartners.net — according to an updated FAQ online. There's a similar suit taking shape in California as well.
For some news that's a bit more serious, the ACS Blog wrote today about a federal judge ordering the release of five Guantanamo Bay detainees. The Justice Department has recently conceded that the detainees can no longer be held for accusations, including the plan to go to Afghanistan and fight the U.S., and a plot, claimed by President Bush, to bomb the U.S. Embassy.
