<<Zervas says that when he was young, he was inspired by art, music, literature, and his ethnic background. The slow-paced suburban life, however, didn't suit him, and this feeling inspired his decision to attend a university in Chicago.

Zervas received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from DePaul University in November 2003 and is currently applying to law school. Graduate school was a goal of his, but he decided to first immerse himself in the working world before pursuing further study in order to diminish some of the debt he had accrued in previous years. Although most of his work experience was in the restaurant industry, while he was seeking employment, he was offered a part-time position as a law clerk at a small criminal defense firm.

Zervas accepted the offer because, he says, it would give him the opportunity to be exposed to a professional environment. The firm closed a year later, and he started working for a group of 17 different attorneys who shared the same office space as his previous employer.

"Working for these attorneys influenced my decision to become a legal secretary and then a paralegal. I worked mostly with criminal cases including a death penalty case with the Cook County Public Defender's Office," he explains.

Working with 17 different attorneys for three years gave him a lot of experience, and although he may have worked more closely with some than others, they all have influenced him in some way. A few of his mentors are Chuck Murphy, Julie Aimen, Susan Shatz, Tom Peters, Mary DeSloover, Bill Murphy, Rick Halprin, Kristen Frost, and Tamara Holder. Zervas also credits his parents, who told him never to give up on his goals "no matter what the obstacle," for his success.

"The legal profession is always a challenge," maintains Zervas.

Zervas plans to devote his life to the legal field. His goal right now is to pursue a law degree. He is currently employed at the Law Firm of Tamara N. Holder, LLC, where he is the executive coordinator; he oversees every aspect of the firm. He says he'll stay there as it is still a young firm and there are plenty of opportunities to grow.

Zervas's breadth of experience will no doubt put him in a good position for law school. And by the sound of it, once his law degree is finished, he will be among peers at the Law Firm of Tamara N. Holder.

One of Zervas's other interests is writing fiction.
