Shearman & Sterling Eliminates GC Position Shearman & Sterling has eliminated the job of general counsel at that firm, leaving current incumbent John Shutkin without work. This comes at a time when many firms are creating general counsel positions, not eliminating them. Shutkin was hired in 2004. Many observers are slightly taken aback since the job of general counsel was to oversee risk management, and now that job will be done part-time at the almost billion-dollar firm with well over 800 lawyers.
Ross Nadel Joins Adobe Systems as Senior Legal Counsel
Ross Nadel has joined Adobe Systems Inc. as senior legal counsel. Nadel is the former criminal chief of the San Francisco US Attorney's Office and founded the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Unit before joining private practice. Part of his new duties at Adobe will involve cybercrime and combating software piracy, which is a problem for Adobe. Adobe makes many very popular software programs such as Photoshop and Flash.
Retired Massachusetts Appeals Court Justice Joins JAMS
The Hon. William I. Cowin, retired Massachusetts Appeals Court justice, has joined JAMS, The Resolution Experts. JAMS is the nation's largest provider of mediation and arbitration services. Cowin will be based in JAMS's Boston center. Prior to joining JAMS, he served on the Massachusetts Appeals Court for seven years.
