Apple Hires Hewlett-Packard's Deputy General Counsel
Apple Inc. (formerly Apple Computer) has hired the top corporate lawyer at Hewlett-Packard. Charles Charnas, deputy general counsel at Hewlett-Packard, is the first big hire by Apple's new general counsel, Daniel Cooperman. At Apple Charnas will head the corporate department, filling a position left vacant for several years. At Hewlett-Packard Charnas managed several large deals, such as the company's purchase of Mercury Interactive in 2006 for $4.5 billion.

Procter & Gamble's Former Associate GC Joins Law Firm
Patrick D. Lane, former associate general counsel of the Procter & Gamble Co., has returned to law firm life, joining the firm Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP. He'll practice in the firm's litigation department in Cincinnati. While at Procter & Gamble, Lane was responsible for intellectual property litigation and the company's North American general litigation.
