This has historically been somewhat controversial, as Avvo's ratings clash with Martindale-Hubble's rankings on occasion. In fact, Avvo was sued a while ago over its system, though that case was dismissed.

In any case, Avvo has now expanded to the Florida and Massachusetts markets. The service is currently in 11 states and also in the District of Columbia. It is available in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington, in addition to DC.

Avvo claims that it now covers more than 60% of all attorneys in the US. Attorneys in the covered states can create profiles for their firms, which can be a particular boon for solo practitioners as they seek more legal work.
