Former Freshfields Lawyer Now Heads Hunton & Williams's London Office
Roger Dyer of Hunton & Williams recently announced that he has become a partner at the law firm and is now heading the banking and finance practice in the firm's London office. Dyer formerly worked for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer for 25 years. Hunton & Williams has more than 1,000 lawyers in a variety of countries. The firm has about 19 offices and focuses on a variety of areas.
Large Firm Relocates
The Kalamazoo law office of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone in Michigan has relocated. The new location: a 32,000-square-foot suite in downtown Kalamazoo that is part of a 151,000-square-foot building. Around 40 lawyers and 36 staff members have been relocated to the new office. The building cost has been estimated at $32 million. The law firm was established in 1852 in Detroit and deals with a variety of issues. It currently employs 800 attorneys nationwide and even has an office in Poland.
Firms Move into Dubai
Law firms attempting to establish themselves in Dubai are undercutting the fees of firms that already operate offices in the region. Areas where fees have been affected include project finance, construction, and energy. Many firms are taking advantage of the current growth in Dubai and investing their firms in the area. Latham & Watkins is the newest addition to the Dubai law firm family. It now has three offices in Middle Eastern areas, all launched within the past month. Dewey & LeBoeuf also opened a "merged firm" at the beginning of the year in Dubai, among other firms that are following suit.
