"The history of the progress of reform in the justice system of our state and country has been marked for the past half-century by the steady, resolute contributions of John Dunne," said Executive Director of the Correctional Association of New York Robert Gangi. "His record of leadership in local, state, and national bar organizations is extensive and particularly notable in promoting the quality of the judiciary and legal services for the indigent."

"John will forever be associated with utter decency and unflagging determination in pursuit of a more just society for all," continued Gangi.

Dunne, who supports humane treatment of people in prison, has been recognized for his legal contributions in areas such as education, healthcare, insurance regulation, the environment, and the criminal justice system.

He has also served as a state senator for 24 years and has fought for the equality of Americans as Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice. There, he won the Edmund Randolph and John Marshall awards.

Today, Dunne serves as senior counsel at Whiteman, Osterman & Hanna, LLP, where his work focuses on environmental, criminal, civil rights, governmental affairs, and appellate law. He is also a member of the New York State Bar, District of Columbia Bar, U.S. Supreme Court Bar, and New York State Bar Foundation, where he served as chair of the fellows.
