Now that you've decided to follow my very persuasive advice, you'll need to figure out what to do this Halloween. This year the holiday falls on a Wednesday, so chances are as a law student you won't really want to hit too many late parties. (But for those of you who still will, cheers!) No worries, though, because the weekend before Halloween will still provide you with many activities to partake in. Below are some interesting events sure to take your mind off of the books for one night and into some carefree fun:
Amusement parks! Places like Universal Studios in L.A. and Orlando as well as Six Flags locations around the country transform themselves during specific nights and weekends in the month of October to feed your Halloween fright appetite. Tickets to the parks usually range between $20 and $60 depending on the area and date, but with scary mazes and rides decked out in Halloween gear, the price of a Universal Studios ticket may be worth it. Who doesn't love a scare or two? The famed Six Flags parks are ready to give you a few. Every year, the parks turn into Halloween extravaganzas on weekends — horribly intriguing and rather frightful places for Halloween thrill seekers. Check specific sites for costs and dates, but it is worth looking into if you are not faint of heart.
Haunted houses, hotels, and ships! What's Halloween without a haunted mansion or another equally scary enclosed location? Every state's activities differ, but there are a few that stand out. In Stowe, Vermont, you can stay at the Green Mountain Inn, which is said to be haunted. Visiting the Queen Mary Shipwreck in Long Beach, California, is another way to treat yourself to some real horror for a night. The legendary, allegedly haunted ship is once again transforming itself — as it does every Halloween — into a creepy place sure to put fear in you. The "shipwreck," which includes blood-spattered walls and realistic-looking hanging skeletons, will run from October 5 through October 31.
Clubs galore! If you're a dance-seeker and drinker, a club may be the answer for you. Check out the local clubs in your area. You are sure to find at least one that will satisfy your clubbing temptation. Big cities tend to have the most scandalous parties, but small towns also know how to mix it up. Make sure you arrive early; a lot of places don't guarantee admission, and lines can get long. Many clubs also require that you wear a costume, so don't show up without one!
House parties! Okay, so we aren't in high school anymore, but a Halloween house party might be a surefire way to get into the spirit of the holiday. A lot of people throw parties during this time of year, and a house party can give you an excuse to dress up in a comfortable and familiar setting. It is also a great inexpensive option compared to visiting a club or bar. You'll get good food, decent drinks, and hopefully some amusing conversations without having to dig too deep into your pocketbook.
Movie festivals! Grab some candy corn and head to a historic theater for some horror-movie fun. Places like New York and L.A., which are known for their theater scenes, will be sure to have some events going on to please any scary-movie lover. Chicago's Conrad Hotel hosts horror movie nights during the month of October on various evenings. Featured movies include Halloween favorites like Frankenstein and Beetlejuice. Some cities also host Halloween movie and party events. Check with local movie theaters for details on their specific Halloween movie nights.
There are many other options; the above are just a few to glance at. No matter what, make sure you pick a costume you can stand out in and show up at whatever event you please. Although law school is an important part of your life, you need some excitement to maintain sanity, so close the books and enter the world of spookiness and horror...if only for a day.
