According to the same article, lawyer Philip S. Beck said, "The video recognition technology would allow owners of videos to provide a digital fingerprint so that if anyone tried to share a video that infringed copyrights, the system would remove it within a minute or so."
But while lawyers agree that YouTube's new technology will be a great benefit, they also believe the company should have acted sooner.
Already, Viacom has filed a lawsuit against YouTube, seeking "$1 billion in damages for what it said was the unauthorized viewing of its programming from MTV, Comedy Central, and other networks such as The Daily Show With John Stewart," the article continues.
"Hopefully," Beck said, "[the software will] eliminate such disputes in the future."
