Former Jones Day Partner Joins King & Spalding's IP Practice
Continuing its recruitment drive to boost its intellectual property practice, King & Spalding has hired patent attorney Margaret B. "Peg" Brivanlou as a partner in the firm's New York office. Formerly, as a partner with Jones Day, Brivanlou gained expertise in patent prosecution and counseling for clients in the biotechnology, genomics, bioinformatics, and pharmaceutical fields. King & Spalding has recently established patent prosecution capabilities in New York, and Brivanlou's expertise will help to bolster the firm's presence in the region. Earlier, the arrival of Ken Sonnenfeld, a patent prosecutor, marked the establishment of patent prosecution capabilities in the firm's New York office, which now offers a full range of IP capabilities and employs more than 30 lawyers and patent agents. Brivanlou is the sixth new partner to join the firm's IP group and the second new partner to join the firm's New York office in the past two months.

Stuart Fleet Joins Kaye Scholer's London Office
International corporate lawyer Stuart Fleet has joined Kaye Scholer's London office as a partner, boosting the firm's international corporate and finance practice. Fleet comes from Eversheds, where he was also a partner. Specializing in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, restructurings, and joint ventures, Fleet has overseen issues relating to the areas of mining, electricity, water, nuclear generation, and waste management. Kaye Scholer has 500 attorneys in offices located in New York, Chicago, Frankfurt, London, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Washington, DC, and West Palm Beach.

Enrique J. Martin Re-joins Greenberg Traurig
After a stint at law firm Hunton & Williams, Enrique J. Martin is back at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, as a shareholder in the global practice group. Martin was formerly Of Counsel at Greenberg Traurig for nine years and worked on several cross-border acquisitions, joint ventures, and capital markets transactions. Martin has expertise in domestic and foreign issuer securities offerings; he also advises clients on general corporate and financing issues, including complex international business transactions. As Greenberg Traurig increasingly participates in mergers and acquisitions activities, it will gain leverage from Martin's expertise.

Foley & Lardner Expands Litigation Department
Foley & Lardner has bolstered its litigation and construction practices with the hiring of Jeffrey R. Blease as a partner in its San Diego office. Blease, a former founder and managing partner of Blease & Zuccaro, LLP, has extensive jury trial experience in diverse jurisdictions. Blease focuses his practice on general business litigation and construction issues involving contracts and litigation, representing owners, developers, contractors, and subcontractors. Foley & Lardner intends to gain leverage from Blease's experience in the area of construction. Prior to joining the firm, Blease served on the Sartell, MN, City Council; he also chaired the St. Cloud, MN, Public Works Commission and served on the St. Cloud Economic Development Commission.

Sidley Austin Hires IP Partner in New York
Sidley Austin, LLP, has strengthened its intellectual property practice group by hiring Partner Sandra A. Bresnick, whose practice will be based in New York. Bresnick will concentrate on patent litigation pertaining to pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and life cycle management of drugs and biologic products. She has experience representing clients in all aspects of intellectual property trials and appeals, including intellectual property management and strategic alliances. Sidley Austin provides clients access to the accumulated knowledge and experience of more than 60 intellectual property lawyers in five domestic offices.

Veteran Trial Lawyer Joins Patton Boggs
Washington, DC-based Patton Boggs, LLP, has hired DeMaurice "De" Smith as a partner in the firm's litigation practice group. Smith enjoys a reputation as a leading lawyer in the area of criminal cases and investigations. As part of the firm's litigation group, Smith will focus on white-collar criminal defense matters and high-profile tort liability trials. Smith has represented corporations and individuals on both criminal and administrative matters. He specializes in cases brought before the U.S. Attorney's Office, the Department of Justice, Congress, the Department of Justice Antitrust Division, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
