Tax Paralegal Jobs Paralegals assist the attorneys by helping them with their work. They perform almost same tasks which are similar to that of lawyers except giving legal advice, settling legal fees, and representing clients in the court. Tax attorneys get extremely busy during the season, however, competent paralegals can make it all run smoother and provide welcome relief during that time. Their main job is to perform research to make sure that lawyers know all of the important facts. Paralegals look up laws and past cases in books and on computers. Duties can include: gathering financial documents from the client and performing data entry, explaining tax strategies and reviewing the updated tax codes, writing reports used by lawyers to help prepare their cases, and keeping a track of the documents related to the case. The tax paralegals also enter the information into the tax software and hence knowledge of Tax Software is a must. They may also help to prepare income tax returns and other financial documents. Some familiarity with tax forms will be an added benefit. Excellent communication skills are required, as there is always the need to obtain missing information or documentation from clients. An Associates degree in paralegal studies or a Bachelors degree with a certificate in paralegal studies is required for paralegal jobs. Most paralegals work a typical 40-hour week whereas, some tax paralegals work only during busy times of the year.
