New partner joins Morrison & Foerster's corporate group in Tokyo
Noted capital markets lawyer Andrew W. Winden recently joined Morrison & Foerster's corporate group in Tokyo. Winden has practiced in Japan since 2001. During this time, he has worked on several of the largest global offerings by Japanese issuers, including the $5.2 billion offering in common stock by Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc.; the privatizations of Central Japan Railway Company, Electric Power Development Company, Ltd., and West Japan Railway Company; and the initial public offering of Dentsu, Inc.
Baker & McKenzie adds global equity service lawyers to its New York office
Baker & McKenzie, LLP, recently expanded its global equity services practice group by adding three lawyers in its New York office. Partners June Anne Burke and Kate Clancy and Associate Nicole C. Calabro joined the firm from Mercer Human Resource Consulting, LLC. Burke received her law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1979 and has completed a substantial amount of coursework toward her LL.M. in Taxation at New York University School of Law. Clancy earned her law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1981. Calabro received her law degree with honors from Pepperdine University School of Law and her LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.
DLA Piper strengthens its government affairs practice group by adding a new partner
DLA Piper has announced that Jack A. Levy has joined the firm's government affairs practice group as a partner in its Washington, DC, office. He comes to DLA Piper from WilmerHale. Levy's practice focuses on antidumping and countervailing duty (CVD) proceedings, export control advice, customs issues and litigation before the U.S. Court of International Trade, NAFTA panels, and World Trade Organization matters. He also advises clients on trade legislation in Congress and trade policy issues under review by the executive branch.
Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox welcomes five new associates
Five new associates have recently joined Washington, DC-based Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox in the firm's biotechnology/chemical practice group and mechanical practice group. The attorneys who joined the biotech practice are Doyle A. Siever, Ulrike Winkler, and Jenny J. Yeh. C. Matthew Rozier and Alexandra K. Pechhold joined the firm's mechanical practice.
Former Paul Hastings attorney is new head of DLA Piper's West Coast restructuring practice
Karol K. Denniston recently joined DLA Piper's finance practice group and will serve as the new head of its West Coast restructuring practice. Denniston, who came to DLA Piper from Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, focuses her practice on restructuring-related matters, including bankruptcy cases, litigation, corporate insolvency, and commercial transactions from debtor and creditor perspectives. She has significant experience with counseling clients on issues relating to acquisitions, trading, and securitization of distressed debt, as well as providing risk management and structural analysis and advice in connection with international financial transactions.
