Third Year Law Student Angela Manning
Personal Life

Angela Manning is a third year law student at Everest University and anticipates a May 2015 graduation. Although Angela has several areas of interest, she plans on practicing criminal and civil law in Iowa. In April 2013, she earned her degree with honors in Paralegal Studies and she will receive her bachelor's degree from Everest University in 2015. Angela made the Dean's list and President's list in 2012 and 2013.

She was born in Columbia City, IN, and raised in Mooring sport, LA. Angela grew up in a small house with six brothers and one sister. Both of her parents passed away at a young age. Angela is married to David Manning and they currently reside in Maquoketa, IA. When she isn't studying, she enjoys reading history books, fishing, camping, and cooking.

Angela's Academic Law Career and Future Aspirations

Why did Angela go into the law? "I love history and law has a lot of history. I was curious how it began and I am interested in all aspects of the law."

She shared her aim and aspiration. "My aim and aspiration is to work for a well-known, respectable law firm, whether it is criminal or civil law. I will have my bachelor's degree and I intend to fully utilize it. I am planning to stay with one firm until I have to retire. I also will pay my debt to society in order to give back due to my degree. I like to talk to young people and stress how important an education really is."

When asked about her key accomplishments, Angela stated, "My key accomplishments are that I have a Associate's degree in Paralegal and I graduated with honors."

Are there any particular achievements or activity that Angela has been involved with that she would like to share with our readers? "I had graduated with honors and I am now working on my bachelor's degree."

She discussed her key strengths and skills that she would like to use to advance her career goals. "My key strengths is that I am self-motivated, get along with others, loyal, and I am persistent."

Are there any weaknesses that Angela would like to work on? "I am compassionate when it comes to people in general. I have a good heart."

Since law school can be hectic at times, she pointed out how she relieves stress. "If I start getting frustrated, I usually stop what I was doing and do something else and go back to it with a fresh mind."

Many readers are probably wondering how she handles new assignments. Angela shared her process: "I handle new assignments well and I check and see what my deadlines are and then I see what needs to be done to get the assignment done."

Where does she derive her confidence? "I get my confidence by reviewing my grades every week, which makes me strive even harder."

If Angela had three wishes, what would she wish for? "If I had three wishes they would be: Employed with a good law firm where I could retire someday, buy a house for my family, and go to Vegas for a honeymoon I never had."

What is her top priority outside of work? "My family."

How does the third year law student deal with fear? "I confront my fears to do what is necessary."

Has Angela faced any obstacles in her life? "They had cut my spouse's hours so I had to go to work on a full time basis and sometimes I had to do doubles but I still got my assignments turned in on time."

Where has she traveled? Does Angela have a most influential traveling experience? "I was a truck driver for four years and I traveled to all fifty states." She continued to say that Philadelphia, PA was her most influential traveling experience because it's the birthplace of America. Angela enjoys the rich history of Philadelphia.

Angela's two legal role models are Perry Mason, played by Raymond Burr on CBS from September 1957 to May 1966, and Law & Orders' John James McCoy, played by Sam Waterston. Although both characters are fictional, Angela enjoys watching Mason because he is determined in the courtroom while McCoy fights for what he believes in.

What is her personal philosophy? "My personal philosophy is that we make our own fate and if we do not like our situation then I have the power to change it. No one else can change it for me."

The future attorney talked about what she believes holds more truth in light of her personal philosophy. Was it fate or choice? "I think what holds truth in my personal philosophy is that before I attended school, I was not happy with my current situation at the time so I changed it."

What kind of situations and people is Angela attracted to? What kind of situations and people does she avoid? "I am attracted to outgoing people." As for situations and people to avoid, she claimed, "I avoid people that want legal advice because I am not a lawyer yet."

Her favorite quote is "Never judge a book by its cover and take time to open it."

Is there anything else Angela cares to share professionally or personally? "I am a paralegal working on my bachelor's degree. I am also seeking employment to help enhance my studies and my career."
