Job Title:
Senior Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment

Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment, will provide comprehensive legal advice and counsel on labor and employment matters for the organization. Key responsibilities include:

- Legal Advice and Compliance:
- Offer high-level legal advice on labor and employment laws and ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop and implement policies to mitigate legal risks.
- Provide training on labor and employment matters as necessary.

- HR and Business Partnering:
- Collaborate with the Human Resources team, including the Vice President, HR Business Partners, HR Directors, and the Leaves & Accommodations team, to address labor and employment issues.
- Provide strategic legal support on issues such as employee discipline, workforce planning, compensation, benefits, and organizational change.

- Executive Leadership Advice and Counsel:
- Offer sensitive and confidential labor and employment advice to executive leadership, including the President & Director, Vice Presidents, and the Board of Directors.

- Investigations:
- Advise on internal investigations related to labor and employment matters.
- Manage external investigators.

- Employment Litigation and Agency Complaints:
- Oversee employment-related litigation and pre-litigation matters.
- Draft responses for state and federal agency complaints.
- Coordinate with outside counsel and liaise with insurance carriers.

- Labor Relations:
- Advise on labor relations, including collective bargaining and union relations.
- Assist in developing labor relations strategies.

- Employment Agreements:
- Draft and advise on various employment agreements.

- Faculty Matters:
- Provide advice on labor and employment issues related to Faculty policies.

- Policy Development and Management:
- Develop and update personnel policies in collaboration with the Policies & Practices Manager.

- International Advice and Counsel:
- Provide legal advice for international programs in Uganda and South Africa.
- Manage in-country outside counsel.

- Out-of-State and International Remote Work:
- Advise on labor and employment laws for remote work in other states and abroad.

- Collaboration and Oversight Within OGC:
- Work with other attorneys on legal matters and oversee their work on labor and employment issues.

- Oversight of HR Compliance:
- Collaborate with HR Compliance Manager and HR Operations on compliance matters.

Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Washington State Bar Association or eligibility to gain such admission.
- 15-20 years of experience in labor and employment law, particularly in-house for a scientific research and/or clinical organization or similar experience in a law firm.
- Experience collaborating with HR and senior leaders.
- Proven track record in managing complex employment litigation.
- Experience managing outside counsel, investigators, and insurance carriers.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and writing skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
- High ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in scientific research and clinical environments.
- Experience with international employment law issues.
- Experience managing attorneys and legal staff.

Salary Information:
The annual base salary range for this position is from $219,606 to $386,173, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
