Job Description:
DLA Piper, a leading global law firm, is seeking an Employment Associate to join their team in Texas. The ideal candidate will have experience in labor and employment law, including litigation, advice and counsel, and transactional work. This position will involve handling litigation management, legal research, legal drafting, and other litigation-related tasks for class action and single plaintiff cases. The Associate will also handle employment law advice and counsel matters, including drafting and negotiation of employment, termination/severance, and related agreements.
Responsibilities:
- Handle litigation management, legal research, legal drafting, and other litigation-related tasks for class action and single plaintiff cases
- Provide employment law advice and counsel, including drafting and negotiation of employment, termination/severance, and related agreements
- Conduct employment due diligence and advise on employment aspects of corporate transactions
- Provide advice on restrictive covenants, employee mobility, compensation practices, commission plans, employee policies/training, and leave of absence/accommodations (FMLA, ADA) issues
- Defend class and collective actions, provide day to day advice and counsel to a wide range of clients, and support complex corporate transactions
- Communicate effectively with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties
- Produce high-quality work product in a timely and efficient manner
- Meet deadlines and expectations while managing competing demands in a fast-paced environment
- Foster positive work relationships and comply with firm policies and practices
- Engage in both physical and sedentary activity, such as working at a computer for extended periods of time, participating in digital/virtual conference calls, and attending meetings as needed
- Perform all other duties, tasks or projects as assigned
Requirements:
- JD degree
- Licensed to practice in Texas
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in labor and employment law, including litigation, advice and counsel, and transactional work
- Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws, including wage and hour laws, discrimination laws, and practice before state and federal court and administrative agencies
- Experience in the defense of class and collective actions, providing day to day advice and counsel, and supporting complex corporate transactions
- Direct and applicable experience at an AmLaw 100 law firm preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and good business judgment
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, research and problem-solving skills, conceptual thinking, ability to influence others, and persuasive communication
- Management skills
Physical Demands:
- Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
- Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met
