Baylor Law School is located in Waco, Texas and holds the title of Texas' oldest Law School founded in 1857. Their creed then is the same today: ''to practice law effectively and ethically.'' The mission is: ''to educate men and women by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community.'' To achieve their mission they have a very tough admission process. Admission to Baylor Law School was rated by the Princeton Review with this comment, ''Baylor University is very small, very affordable, and very difficult to get into. For students lucky enough to gain admission...''

Admissions not only consider grade point average (3.53-3.88) and LSAT scores (155 to 160). They look to the integrity of the prospective student who has motivation and strong work ethics. Baylor uses the following to help make their determination:

  • Letters of recommendation
  • Academic achievements
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Work experience
  • Evidence of maturity
  • Ability to communicate clearly using the student's Personal Statement.
  • Prospective students can apply completely online
  • Prospective students can schedule a visit to the campus anytime.

Baylor Law School uses the quarter system so there are three beginning classes each year in spring, summer and fall. Sixty five students begin in these 3 quarters each year. The classes are small and the teachers can focus on student learning early in their law school careers. There are opportunities to provide pro bono legal aid to local groups. Combining theory with practice is the difference between Baylor and other law schools.

Students at Baylor can focus on any six programs offered:

  • Administrative practice
  • Business litigation
  • Business transactions
  • Criminal practice
  • Estate planning
  • General civil litigation

Baylor has a law library and research center called Sheridan & John Eddie Williams Legal Research and Technology Center. The students at Baylor Law have the best in legal libraries for research, acquisition lists and an audio visual movie collection. The Research and Technology Center is open to any one in the public sector who wishes to research or use any of the number of services provided at the library.

The Career Services office at Baylor Law School also provides one-on-one service to their students and alumni through counseling, professional workshops, recruitment programs and job posting databases. The law school is very proud of Baylor Alumni accomplishments in Public Service:

  • Two Texas governors,
  • Members or former members of the U.S. Congress and U.S. Senate,
  • Two former directors of the FBI,
  • Ambassadors,
  • Federal judges,
  • Justices of the Texas Supreme Court and
  • Members of the Texas Legislature

Baylor Law School has the reputation of being the oldest law school in Texas and the second oldest in the US. The Years of experience in training students in lawyering has won the school recognition as graduates excel on their bar exams and in their practices. Take a look at Baylor Law School.

Harrison Barnes is the legal profession's mentor and may be the only person in your legal career who will tell you why you are not reaching your full potential and what you really need to do to grow as an attorney--regardless of how much it hurts. If you prefer truth to stagnation, growth to comfort, and actionable ideas instead of fluffy concepts, you and Harrison will get along just fine. If, however, you want to stay where you are, talk about your past successes, and feel comfortable, Harrison is not for you.

Truly great mentors are like parents, doctors, therapists, spiritual figures, and others because in order to help you they need to expose you to pain and expose your weaknesses. But suppose you act on the advice and pain created by a mentor. In that case, you will become better: a better attorney, better employees, a better boss, know where you are going, and appreciate where you have been--you will hopefully also become a happier and better person. As you learn from Harrison, he hopes he will become your mentor.

I was incredibly happy with the site. I thought it was very easy to use; had significantly more postings than any other site (or combination of sites); and provided a lot of useful information. (the number, and caliber, of job postings). Exactly what I was looking for – I have 5 years’ experience and was looking for a lateral move or an in-house position, and that’s exactly what I found!
