Blueprint JD: Building Diversity in Law

Summary: A lack of diversity in the legal profession is a problem that very few care to address, but Blueprint JD is taking the issue on to make it better.

This nonprofit organization works to fix the problem of a lack of diversity in the legal industry. Our society is increasingly diverse, but that is not reflected in the legal profession. The blog points out that racial and ethnic minorities make up 30 percent of the US population, but only 10 percent of practicing attorneys.


Blueprint JD provides tailored career information and advice to the law student community. Through their mission, they stress that “It’s about time” for diversity to take a priority in the legal profession.

Their leadership is built upon a resourceful board of directors that are passionate about helping diverse law students be successful. The board members are K. Suzette Akins, Edwin Lindo, Arnette Steele, and Jasmine Wade.

The editorial team writes for the site in addition to their other jobs. Roxana Bell is a Contributing Editor and covers disability. She also works as an Indianapolis judicial law clerk. She previously worked as a high school chemistry and physics teacher and still teaches SAT, MCAT, LSAT, and GRE classes for The Princeton Review.

Sescily Coney is a Contributing Editor and second year law student at Howard University School of Law. She has been blogging since 2009, creating her blog in 2011. She covers women’s rights, housing rights, and legal education.

Jameshia Durham is an Editorial Intern that covers career guidance. She is a full-time student in her senior year at Howard University. She plans to attend law school to focus on corporate law.

Ashley Johnson is a Contributing Editor that recently graduated from Saginaw Valley State University. She currently works part-time at St. Matthew’s Lutheran church as the International Ministry Office Manager.

Courtney Weisman is a Contributing Editor that also works for the US Government on one of the Administration’s education reform initiatives. She graduated from the University of Florida recently with a degree in Political Science. She is now attending NYU Law.

Erin Osterhaus is a Contributing Editor that is an expert on international non-profit/NGO law issues. She earned her MA from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service and is now an Associate at the Center for Civilians in Conflict.
