Attorney jobs are plentiful in Texas, in part because the Lone Star State sits right in the middle of the controversy over illegal immigration and the deportation of illegal aliens.
The legal job outlook for Texas is strong and includes legal work in many areas. Immigration law has been on the forefront of late due to the state's border with Mexico. Energy law is another important practice area for lawyers in the state given Texas' past and present as one of the major oil producing regions of the country. The top practice area in Texas, though, is corporate law, with much of the work being concentrated in Dallas and Houston. Another top practice area for attorneys in Texas is international law because many of the state's big corporations do business globally, particularly in Mexico and Latin America.
Houston is the largest city in the state, and with a population of two million people, it is home to some of the biggest law firms in the nation. Houston also has branch offices of many major international corporations such as BP and LDH Energy. Accordingly, corporate attorney jobs are very popular and numerous in Texas, often highly sought after since one could become in-house counsel for a major firm. These positions require an attorney to work in close contact with other departments in drafting contracts for various business ventures.
Attorney jobs in Texas are plentiful, if you know where to look. Environmental, corporate, bankruptcy, and immigration law are the fastest growing practice areas in the state.
Dallas is the second largest city in the state and home to the branches of many big businesses, including, for example, Progressive Insurance. San Antonio, meanwhile, has seen a rise in labor and employment law of late, and since San Antonio, like Dallas, has a large and growing population, attorney jobs are becoming increasingly available there to meet the demands of the growing city.
In short, attorney jobs in Texas are plentiful, if you know where to look. Environmental, corporate, bankruptcy, and immigration law are the fastest growing practice areas in the state, but there is certainly work in many other areas as well. Experience is required, of course, for many of the higher paying legal positions, but what you know can give you an edge if you're seeking a change of scenery and thinking of moving to Texas.
