Jason Rosell
"It wasn't until an equipment manufacturer in Indiana that we had contracted with to build a custom filling machine failed to deliver the equipment or return our payment and subsequently filed bankruptcy, that I decided to become a lawyer," Rosell said. "My business partner has taken the reins of the company while I attend law school."
While becoming a lawyer may not have been his childhood dream, Rosell, who has excelled in law school, feels it will help his future in innumerable ways and finds himself greatly enjoying his time in law school.
"I enjoy the mental exercises and classroom discussions," he said. "Studying law, more than any other subject, has taught me to fully examine both sides of any issue. Although this is a useful practice in the classroom, my friends outside of law school may be a little annoyed."

Upon beginning law school, Rosell researched the student organizations available at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. He was shocked to discover there were no organizations focusing on small business. He talked to some of his peers and realized that there was a great need for an organization that taught students about some of the legal needs of small businesses, as well as the difficulties faced by those starting their own practice.

"In my first semester, I founded the Small Business Law Student Association," Rosell said. "Although we are a new organization and are still in the process of being funded, we have an energetic and ambitious board that is planning this semester's events. Most of our events will be fundraisers [such as] morning coffee sales, pizza sales, and a dodge ball tournament, but our main focus is our speaker series. Our speaker series will consist of sole practitioners and the difficulties they faced in starting their own practice and also local valley business owners and the legal struggles they face."
In addition to his duties as President of the Small Business Law Student Association, Rosell is also active in several other organizations on campus: Sports and Entertainment Law Students Association (he is the 1L representative), Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Corporate and Business Law Students Association, Jewish Law Students Association, and the Arizona Justice Project. He feels that there are many benefits to being involved in organizations during law school.

"First, you surround yourself with students that share the same interests as you," Rosell said. "Second, it's great for networking. I assisted the Sports and Entertainment Law Students Association with their annual symposium and was able to meet various prominent leaders, from owners of professional sports teams to Hollywood agents. Finally, I think it's vital to join an association that focuses on community service. Whether it's organizing a blood drive or lending a hand with a food drive, it's a great feeling knowing you're helping others."

When he graduates, Rosell plans on retaking the reigns as Vice President of Rips Liquor. If that does not work out, he would like to pursue a career at a law firm specializing in international business. While studying for his M.B.A., he focused on international business and spent a few weeks in China (primarily Beijing and Shanghai). He would like to combine the knowledge he has gained through the two programs.
