Summary:
Truist, a leading financial institution, is seeking a Retail Brokerage Associate General Counsel to provide legal and regulatory advice to its retail broker-dealer and investment adviser affiliates. This position is available in 4 locations - Charlotte, Atlanta, Richmond, or Washington. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree and 8 years of post-bar experience in a law firm, government, and/or corporate setting. The salary for this position ranges from $150,000 to $200,000 per year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide legal and regulatory advice to Truist Bank's affiliated retail broker-dealer, registered investment adviser, and insurance agency
- Counsel line of business, compliance, and regulatory reporting functions in drafting disclosures and responding to regulatory inquiries
- Manage complex legal issues and coordinate with management and other legal and compliance departments to resolve complaints, arbitrations, litigation, and other legal matters
- Conduct legal research on retail broker-dealer, registered investment adviser, and insurance laws, rules, and regulations
- Interface with colleagues in legal, compliance, supervision, finance, risk, and other teams to maximize efficiencies and facilitate issue resolution
- Coordinate with stakeholders to provide legal analysis and advice on new and existing laws, processes and procedures, regulatory examinations, audits, and inquiries
- Advise on compliance with Regulation Best Interest, Form CRS, FORM ADV requirements, and the SEC RIA Marketing Rule
- Support separate corporate secretarial functions for the Broker Dealer, RIA, and Insurance Agency
- Educate business partners and collaborate with compliance, supervision, risk, and business partners to ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations
- Draft agreements, disclosures, policies, and procedures related to the sale and offering of securities and insurance products and RIA channel investment advice
- Review and provide advice on communications to sales force, customers, and distribution partners
- Partner with senior business management and operations personnel to stay informed of legal and regulatory developments
- Participate in and lead departmental and cross-functional working groups in areas of legal expertise or development
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing
- 8 years of post-bar experience in a law firm, government, and/or corporate settings
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize matters and handle a heavy workload
- Able to work autonomously and in a team-oriented environment
- Proficient in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office

- Sitting, standing, walking, and bending occasionally
- Lifting up to 10 lbs.
- Able to access and interpret client information and communicate effectively
- Able to work standard office equipment
- Availability to work all scheduled hours, including overtime and travel up to 25%
