Associate General Counsel – Providing Legal Support and Guidance in the Financial Services Industry
Are you an experienced attorney looking for a fulfilling and challenging role in a reputable company? **Members Only** is seeking an Associate General Counsel with a deep understanding of legal and regulatory matters in the financial services industry, particularly in relation to . Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti Money Laundering (AML) laws, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations, and anti-corruption and anti-bribery.
As an Associate General Counsel, you will have the opportunity to work closely with various business units, including the Financial Crimes unit, providing legal and regulatory support and guidance. You will also have the chance to stay updated on industry developments and advise on compliance matters, internal audits, and risk assessments. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work on financial crime investigations and collaborate with internal and external counsel on litigation and other matters.
We are looking for a candidate with a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and at least ten years of post-bar experience in a law firm, government, or corporate setting. The ideal candidate will also possess superior written and verbal communication skills, the ability to prioritize and manage a heavy workload, and work autonomously without close supervision. Experience or training in the financial services industry or a related legal practice area is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support to various business units, including the Financial Crimes unit, on a daily basis
- Advise on compliance matters, internal audits, and risk assessments
- Stay updated on legislative, regulatory, and industry developments related to BSA/AML and OFAC compliance
- Assist with financial crime investigations, due diligence matters, and risk assessments
- Identify potential legal and compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Review policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Collaborate with internal and external counsel on litigation and other matters
- Coordinate with industry trade groups on advocacy matters
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing
- Ten years of post-bar experience in a law firm, government, and/or corporate settings
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage a heavy workload and meet critical deadlines
- Able to work autonomously without close supervision
- Team-oriented mentality and excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficient in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
- Experience or training in the financial services industry or a related legal practice area is preferred
