The firm was established in 2005 through a merger between Edwards & Angell LLP and Palmer & Dodge LLP. Three years later, the firm merged with the London-based firm, Kendall Freman. Just last week, Edwards Angelle Palmer & Dodge announced that it will merge Wildman, Harold, Alex & Dixon LLP, of Chicago on October 1, 2011. Following the merger, the firm will be called Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP and will offer the following core group of disciplines: corporate and financial transactions, complex litigation, insurance and reinsurance, and intellectual property. The firm will have a total of 13 offices and 650 attorneys. It will continue to hold its Boston base.

Currently, Edwards Angelle Palmer & Dodge boasts 500 attorneys, all of whom practice in one of the firm's core departments, which include business law; insurance & reinsurance; intellectual property; litigation; private client; public finance; public policy and government relations; real estate; restructuring and insolvency; and tax, benefits, and compensation.

The firm is committed to the Law Firm Pro Bono Project, which was formed as a means of encouraging pro bono programs within the largest 850 US law firms. In an effort to support pro bono work, Edwards Angelle Palmer & Dodge recognizes firm members who have contributed to the community in extraordinary ways. Members of the firm have taken on pro bono matters in a broad range of areas, including civil rights and constitutional challenges; low-income housing; unemployment compensation; family law; refugee/asylum law; environmental protection, and more.

As a means of supporting women in the business community, the firm formed the Women's Business Collaborative in 1996. The Women's Business Collaborative provides female business professionals with the opportunity to network, develop new business opportunities, access seminar opportunities, and more. Following Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge's lead, other firms have developed similar programs.

The firm further supports female professionals through its sponsorship of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ), the National Association of Women Lawyer (NAWL), the Women's Association of Venture & Equity (WAVE), the American Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession, and the Association of Professional Insurance Women.

Through Edwards Angelle Palmer & Dodge's Summer Associate Program, law students are given the opportunity to experience life within a law firm. The program encourages summer associates to take on challenges in dealing with major clients, and establish relationships. The class sizes are kept to a minimum in order to cater to the summer associate's individual interests, while also allowing them to explore different areas of practice. Most of the firm's first year associate hires are found through this program. The firm offers a similar program through its London office.
