John R. DeRosa, Assistant Dean for Student and Career Services

As the Assistant Dean for Student and Career Services, DeRosa is responsible for managing the Career Services Office, which involves a wide array of duties. While overseeing the law school's job fair and its on-campus recruiting program, DeRosa must also provide students and alumni with crucial career counseling services. And in addition to working directly with students, DeRosa must also cultivate and maintain connections with the employers that routinely recruit from Cornell.

And DeRosa's duties do not end there. In addition to providing career and academic counseling to the students, he is also a Cornell University Crisis Manager, which involves working with students and family members who have experienced a sudden loss or other form of crisis. The crisis management team is composed of nine team-members. Through shared call duties, at least one of the team members is available at all times.


DeRosa also provides financial guidance to the law school's numerous student organizations and is a member of a several committees, such as Cornell Law School's Administrative, Judicial Clerkship, Career Planning, and Public Service faculty committees. He also handles orientation for new JD students, serves on the Graduate Community Task Force, and is a member of the school's Health Careers Evaluation Committee.

But DeRosa's involvement does not end there. For more than ten years, he has served as an active member of the National Association for Law Placement (''NALP'') and was involved with the association's National Diversity Recruiting Task Force from 2008 to 2009. From 2005-2006, he functioned as the Northeast Regional Coordinator for NALP. He was one of the presenters at the 2005 NALP Education Conference and was also involved in the association's Professional Development Committee in 2004-2005. In 2004 he also served on the Nominating Committee.

In the more recent past, DeRosa served as the elected Chair of the Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools' Section on Student Services, while two years ago he was a member of the Advisory Committee for the 2009 Vault Legal Diversity Career Fair.

Following his graduation from Brooklyn Law School, DeRosa practiced corporate law for several years in New York City. He earned his BS from Cornell University, where he majored in Industrial and Labor Relations.
