Before taking on employment with Lodgian, Ellis spent two years at Stokes Lazarus & Carmichael, LLP in Atlanta. As an associate attorney, he was largely involved in providing representation for hotel owners. From 1995 to 1997, Ellis served as an Assistant District Attorney for the State of Georgia, during which time he functioned as the lead attorney in more than 30 jury trials.
Ellis earned his JD cum laude from the University of Mississippi. He holds a MBA from Mercer University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Georgia Southern University. He is the Treasurer of Georgia's American Corporate Counsel Association Chapter and a Board Member of the Foster Care Support Foundation of Georgia.

Carmike Cinemas is one of the largest US motion picture exhibitors with 236 theaters and 2,223 screens throughout 36 states.
