Halloween is not just for kids anymore; adults around the country are running to their nearest Party City outlets to buy the best outfits they can find. Well, maybe not running, but some of us are definitely striving to keep the spirit alive (or perhaps win that office costume contest).

In many workplaces, dressing up for Halloween is a tradition that has been going on for years. Some of us might groan when we realize we need to get decked out for all to see, but it's not so bad if you plan accordingly. Let's say you've been invited to a friend's party and you've purchased a revealing outfit to impress the ex. Is that going to be the same costume you don in a corporate setting? Probably not. Especially for females, there's a fine line between what's appropriate and what's not.

Although there are some rules and restrictions, Halloween is all about having fun. Why not modify that same revealing outfit to make it a bit classier? You don't have to completely reconstruct your costume, but incorporating a few minor changes can allow you to play it safe. After all, you will be seeing these people the next day in civilian clothing and don't want to lose their respect!

Below are some tips for the ladies for keeping it classy, not trashy, this Halloween:
  1. Don't go too short. Nobody wants to see any inappropriate parts, especially out in the open at work. What you do outside of work is your own business, but you don't want to stand next to your CEO in a sparkly miniskirt revealing all, thanks to your sexy nurse costume. If your costume is on the short side, leggings or stockings are the way to go. Sure, you won't get the full effect, but it will be work appropriate and still look cute. Go with basic black leggings, or choose colors that match your getup; you can find them almost anywhere these days!

  2. Cleavage galore is strictly forbidden. These days, many costumes run low, and I don't mean in price. If you do have a cleavage-baring top, why not slip a tank top underneath?

  3. Don't go for the clown look (unless you're actually masquerading as a circus performer). Makeup is meant to work with your costume, not overcome it. As long as your outfit and eye makeup don't qualify you for a drag queen contest, you should be okay. Remember that Halloween costume parties at work usually take place during the day, so get done up but not overdone.

  4. In general, sheer fabric, lace, and questionable accessories should be kept under wraps. Remember that your goal at work is not to be a Victoria's Secret model. Your boss is not going to want to see any of that, so leave it at home and bring it out after hours. Nix the raunchy accoutrements, and wear tanks and other cover-ups where need be.
All of that being said, office costume parties can truly be enjoyable. As long as you are comfortable in your costume and look unique, the workday can go by a lot faster. Plus, there is usually a ton of food and fun to enjoy, so don't be out of the spirit. Dress, eat, and, most of all, party up!
